Describe your first home as a young couple...

This prompt made me smile since my dear hubby and I like to reminisce about our first home a lot. We both LOVED it. It was small, it was old, but it was the first thing we ever owned. We're still pretty proud of buying our first home by the time we turned 20 and not wasting years of money renting. It wasn't any of our own wisdom- it really was all God, as it always is!
Our first home was a little mill house built in the 1920's. It had the original wood floors that we coincidentally couldn't afford to refinish until a few months before we moved out, but they weren't in too bad of shape. We had 3 bedrooms that were fairly large-in the 1920's, bedrooms were bigger and living areas were smaller. My, how times have changed! We only had one bathroom- that's probably our biggest regret in purchasing our first home, but we LOVED the giant pink (yes pink) claw foot tub. What a joy it was to soak in that huge monstrosity. No bathtub has measured up since! : )
We had a nice front porch with a swing that we used quite often. There were so many nooks and crannys in this old house, so I had millions of places to store all my special little decorations that I bought through the years. We had two fireplaces, neither of which were operational, but we loved the character they added to our home. We spent our first few weeks there painting, wallpapering, and I even made our curtains myself. We took great pride in our little home.
We moved in to our first home when our son turned one. We brought our daughter home from the hospital there. Both our kids remember this home, which makes us happy. Our sons bedroom was directly across the living room from ours. Most every night as a toddler, we would put him to bed and he would sneak out of his bed and try to run across the den to the other side to "find" us. My husband was always waiting, hiding in place, for our son to dart across so he could reach out and grab him. Many shrieks ensued! ; )
We had a huge yard and we had people over all the time. For such a small house, we constantly entertained. Many card games and July fourth parties took place. We miss the annual fireworks display.
We have precious memories from this first home. It was our perfect first home. It was a little under 1100 square feet and we simply outgrew it after living there for five years, but we were sad to sell it in the end. God moved us on to bigger and better, but we treasure those first special years in our little old mill house. As I get older and life gets more complicated, I often think of how fun and carefree our lives were in that house.
So, our first house as a young couple was...ours. : )
